Challenge
This homeowner reached out after noticing cracks forming near the ceiling of the interior walls of the home, as well as a few uneven spots in the flooring. But one of the quieter frustrations they mentioned during our inspection was something many people overlook: certain rooms in the home were always fluctuation temperature-wise, no matter how the thermostat was set.
Our team traced these temperature swings back to the crawl space, which lacked proper insulation and had no vapor barrier. The cold damp air from below was rising up into the living space and affecting the entire home.
Solution
We installed a series of SmartJacks to reinforce and lift the sagging floor joists, which were contributing to the visible cracks. Then, we encapsulated the crawl space with a thick vapor barrier and sealed the area to block out moisture and ground water. A dehumidifier was also added to regulate humidity and improve overall air quality.
After the project was completed, the homeowner saw improvements both structurally and in comfort. The ceiling cracks stopped spreading, the floors felt more stable, and the house held temperature more evenly. With their crawl space properly sealed and supported, the homeowner now enjoys a safer, more comfortable living space from the ground up.
