Got Cracks in Your Walls? You Might Have a Bigger Problem Than You Realize

Many cracks are normal as a house settles. However, if you notice cracks lengthening, widening, or moving, you may have foundation problems.

If you notice cracks in your walls, consider monitoring them to ensure there are no changes. If there are, contact a foundation repair specialist to examine the cracks and your home’s structure.

Ignoring foundation wall issues can lead to more damage over time, which turns into a major expense and may deter future buyers. Addressing foundation issues early might mean that they can be fixed without the cost or disruption of excavating the foundation and making other major changes.

Common wall crack methods, like urethane, cement, caulk, and epoxy, are ineffective and don’t address the underlying structural issues causing the cracks. In some instances, cracks lead to leakage from groundwater around the home. Plugging up these cracks with epoxy is a temporary fix, and epoxy cannot move with the wall as it continues to settle.

There are several options to fix foundation issues, including foundation piers and wall anchors. A qualified professional should be able to explain the best solution for your home based on the severity of the cracks.
