Building More Than Rooms: A Special Spaces Makeover in Knoxville

Some projects mean a little more.

Recently, members of the Master Foundation & Crawl Space Repair team had the opportunity to partner with Special Spaces for a bedroom makeover for a local Knoxville family. Special Spaces is an organization dedicated to creating dream bedrooms for children facing cancer and other serious illnesses, giving them a space where they can rest, play, and simply be a kid.

This project centered around 12-year-old Daniel and his younger sister, Emma. Daniel is battling Spindle Cell Neoplasm and loves music, playing guitar and saxophone, video games, and early 2000s alternative rock. With those interests in mind, the team worked together to help create a bedroom that felt completely his own. Emma also received a transformed space designed especially for her.

Over the course of just a few days, volunteers came together to paint, clean, assemble furniture, hang decorations, set up technology, and take care of all the little details that brought the rooms to life. It was truly a team effort, with everyone jumping in wherever they were needed.

While seeing the finished spaces was exciting, the best part of the entire project was watching Daniel and his family experience the rooms for the first time.

At Master Foundation & Crawl Space Repair, being part of the communities we serve means more than the work we do in homes every day. Opportunities like this give our team the chance to use our time, skills, and teamwork to make a difference for the families around us.

We are incredibly grateful to Special Spaces for allowing our team to be part of this project and to every volunteer who helped make it happen. It was a few days filled with hard work, plenty of fun, and a reminder of just how much can be accomplished when people come together for a meaningful purpose.
