Fatal Weather Blasts Through Kentucky Area Thursday Night Leaving Behind Miles of Damage

TornadoRichmond, KY - Torrential rain and hammering winds blew through Kentucky and into Oklahoma Thursday night, killing three people and raising concerns about how homeowners will recover and withstand future storms.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association's (NOAA) Storm Prediction Center reported ten tornadoes having wrecked through the area, particularly landing in Arkansas and Tennessee. In addition to tornadoes, some areas witnessed hail falling as large as 1.50 inches in diameter, buckets of rain and heavy winds.

The heaviest amount of rain, 3.29 inches, has been reported to have fallen at the Murray-Calloway County Airport. Winds were clocked in at as high as 80 MPH and have been deemed responsible for damages done to trees, power lines and structures - specifically foundations.

Just as these conditions are known to happen in local areas, they are also known to leave behind thousands of dollars in damages. Unfortunately for some homeowners, foundation damages from this storm will need to be repaired hastily.

The combination of heavy rain and high gusts of wind can push foundation walls inward, and where enough water has accumulated, floors can actually begin to sag. In some cases, hydrostatic pressure can build up and cause severe cracking.
