Habitat for Humanity: Master Services Lends a Hand

This past Saturday, some of the Master Services employees gladly traded their off day for a workday.  When Master Services got wind of Habitat for Humanity’s project taking place locally, we informed our staff and passed out signup sheets.

This particular project was for a local single mother, Jennifer.  She currently rents a small space, but desired a permanent home for her and her son.  She searched for a house to purchase but became discouraged by the few options available for a single parent on a limited income.  She wants to give her son comfort, quality, and safety.  He starts kindergarten in the fall.  She is a natural caregiver.  She said she considers her family her “everything.”

At least a dozen of the employees at Master Services showed up around 11:30 am and worked until late that afternoon.  They helped mainly on the exterior of the home, building the trestle for the roof, and laying wood.  Kim Reynolds, a customer service representative, brought her husband.  She carried equipment (ladders, wood, etc.) around the jobsite and made sure the men stayed hydrated.  It was a very hot summer day, high being 90áµ’ F.  It was her first time doing any Habitat for Humanity volunteer work, and she said, “It was a really good experience!”  Marketing guru, Trevor Jones, brought his girlfriend.  He observed, “It’s great to see how Habitat for Humanity empowers people to give back to the community. The woman we were working on the house for had volunteered for the past year at Habitat for Humanity.”  As you can see, a lot of our employees brought a family member, spouse, or friend.

Jennifer, the future owner of the home, was there as well.  She was excited to see so much progress!  She was also helping in any way she could.  All in all, everyone had a great time volunteering!
