Helical Pier Installation to Stabilize Home in Chattanooga
Challenge
A homeowner in Chattanooga reached out after noticing long cracks forming along the base of their exterior walls. Over time, the damage became more noticeable; especially near one corner of the house, where the cracks widened and the ground around the foundation appeared to be shifting. These were clear signs of foundation settlement, and the homeowner knew something needed to be done before the problem worsened.
Upon inspection, our team confirmed that the corner of the home was indeed sinking, likely due to shifting soil and poor load-bearing conditions underneath the foundation. Without intervention, this could have led to major structural issues and increased repair costs down the road. The goal was to stop the settlement, close the cracks as much as possible, and ensure the home was properly supported moving forward.
Solution
To permanently stabilize the affected area, we installed a series of helical piers beneath the sinking corner of the home. These piers were driven deep into stable soil layers far below the surface to bypass the weak upper soils causing the problem. Once installed, the piers were connected to the foundation using heavy-duty steel brackets to transfer the home's weight onto the piers.
By doing so, we were able to lift and secure the sinking portion of the home and prevent any future movement. The pier system offered a long term solution without the need for a full foundation replacement. Our crew worked efficiently to minimize disruption, and the system was fully in place in just a matter of days!
The helical pier installation successfully stabilized the corner of the home, stopped the settlement, and helped close the visible cracks. The homeowner can now rest easy knowing their foundation is reinforced and protected against future soil shifts. This project is a great example of how our team provides lasting solutions for homeowners facing structural issues; no matter how small or large the signs may seem at first.
