Foundation Stabilization with Helical Piers in Knoxville, TN
Challenge
This Knoxville, TN homeowner began noticing signs of foundation settlement around their home—an issue that often develops gradually as soil beneath the structure shifts or loses its ability to properly support the weight of the home. In crawl space foundations, this type of movement can lead to structural instability, uneven floors, and stress on the overall framing of the house.
Soils in this region can expand, contract, or weaken over time due to moisture changes, creating voids beneath the foundation. When this happens, portions of the home begin to sink, and without proper intervention, the problem will continue to worsen.
Solution
To permanently address the foundation settlement, our team at Master Foundation & Crawl Space Repair installed a system of helical piers designed to stabilize the home by transferring its weight to more stable soil layers below the surface.
Helical piers are engineered steel foundation supports that are mechanically advanced into the ground until they reach load-bearing strata. Unlike temporary fixes, this system bypasses the unstable upper soils that caused the settlement in the first place. Once installed, the piers are bracketed to the home’s foundation, allowing the weight of the structure to be redistributed onto the piers instead of the shifting soil.
In this project, multiple 3-inch helical piers with standard brackets were strategically installed along the affected areas of the home to provide consistent, long-term support. This system not only stabilizes the foundation to prevent further settlement, but in some cases can also allow for controlled lifting toward the home’s original position.
By using helical pier technology, the homeowner now has a reliable, engineered solution that addresses the root cause of foundation settlement—not just the symptoms. The result is a stabilized foundation and long-term peace of mind knowing the home is supported by a system designed to perform for years to come.
